CBB posts 132% surge in 1Q income

Chile-based CBB reported sales of CLP97,781.67m (US$102.83m) in the 1Q24, up 11.1 per cent from CLP87,989.15m in the equivalent period of the previous year. International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have provided the final tranche of a US$400m financing package to global finance group BBVA in Peru with the objective to promote sustainable construction and energy efficiency projects in the country. Chile-based Cemento Polpaico SA , part of the Hurtado Vicuña Group , posted a loss of CLP4722.8m (US$4.81m) in 2023, compared with a CLP3921m profit in 2022. Votorantim Cimentos has reported a 123 per cent growth in net profit in 2023 to BRL2.6bn (US$522.7m), from BRL1.2bn in 2022. Peruvian cement dispatches slipped by two per cent YoY to 0.89Mt in February 2024 when compared with the previous year’s equivalent period, said the country’s cement association, ASOCEM. CEMEX Colombia will source 42,865MWh of electricity per year for its Caracolita plant in Colima from Celsia's new 19.9MWac solar farm in Ibague upon commissioning of the new solar farm. The Brazilian cement market expanded by 4.2 per cent YoY to 4.615Mt in February 2024 from 4.429Mt in February 2023, reports the country’s cement association, SNIC. Peru-based cement producer  Unacem has reported revenue of PEN6.38bn (US$1.73bn) in 2023, marking a 6.6 per cent increase YoY, despite the country’s declining construction sector. Cement consumption in Argentina fell 23.5 per cent YoY to 684,960t in February 2024 from 895,938t in February 2023, according to the country’s cement association, AFCP.
